Fuel (station) pump shutoff doesn't work with my JK
Anyone else have the issue of the fuel pumps at gas stations consistently not shutting off with their JK? I've never been able to top off without gas splashing out, but for the last month, the auto shutoff feature on most pumps has been letting it overflow just a bit. today it overflowed a ton and i had gas pooling on the corner of my rear bumper.
I'm at a loss and I'm tired of having wipe down the side of my jeep with wet paper towels every time I fill up.
Anyone else have this issue? What could be causing it?
It happens at different stations, so it's nothing specific to a particular pump.

It happens to me too! I hate it! I think it's do to the fact that the tank is on the passengers side. If you look under the Jeep, you will notice that the tube leading to the tank is very small and is installed somewhat flat. There isn't enough space for the pressure to build up inside the tube allowing the nozel to sut off sooner. Solution? If you try to redirect the hose it could get ripped off when offroad. It has pissed me off since day one.
Mine does- and I'm convinced it is because of the new vapor recovery nozzles. I go to the same station all the time, and never had the issue until a couple months ago. Prior to that, they had an old style vapor recovery nozzle. A few months ago they switched to one of the new ones that have like a "cup" that covers the entire filler neck, pretty much secures the nozzle on it.
I think those nozzles are not allowing the air to empty out of the tank as fast as it needs to. So when the tank is full, there is a large burp of air that comes up forcing fuel out with it. I even had one (at another station) a month ago that actually threw the nozzle completely out

Have to agree with N2Rock....same thing at the commercial card lock I use....just switch nozzles last week for the unlead fuel pumps and now....it shoots out before the pumps shuts off.
Still nothing like the high speed Diesel fuel pumps.....damn that diesel shoots out like a geyser if you don't take care.
Mine NEVER did this until a few weeks ago. Now it is does it EVERY time. multiple pumps, multiple nozzles. I don't know what the common denominator is other than the Jeep. It is weird it just started to do it. Drives me crazy too.

Hummm Never had a issue with mine doing that. In fact when it stops I can still put another dollars worth in before it goes to the top.
I will have too say this is a issue with the stations fuel pump handles and not the JK.

Mine never does this because I don't try to "top it off".
You shouldn't try to top it off for this very reason.
The sensor in the nozzle stops pumping of fuel when if senses liquid.
Once triggered it needs time to dry.
You get spills because you top it off.
In Minnesota you are required by law to be at the nozzle.
I know the Holiday in Chanhassen will turn the pump off if you do more then wash the windows or check the oil. They will also not approve someone under age to pump fuel, Minnesota law says 16 or older to pump gas.
All these things are posted on the pump.
