Default Gas Cap message question

So yesterday my message board started saying Gas cap. I went and got a new one and still have the message. My guy at the dealer says it is some kinda of switch like a $13.00 part. Anyone else have this happen? I did a shearch but came up with nothing.

I had that error message for many months. It took two evaps before it went away. Turned out to be the connection to the evap.

I got that warning in addition to a check engine which was Evap related. Actually had to holes burned into the Evap from being relocated too close to my exhaust.

I just had the check engine light come on and while I cant remember the error code# it read SLOW/SMALL EVAP SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED. It turned out to be the hose clamp on the fuel filler neck right below the gas cap was loose. you could see some fuel seepage so I tightened it, cleared the code and have been driving around with no light now for about a week. Yes!

If you do any off-road driving i would relocate it. I'm really stumped as to why Jeep put it where it is anyway Woods makes a easy relocate kit at SWAG.com

The guy that looked at it said he could see where some rocks had made contact with my evap canister but he said there was no cracks or real damage.
