Haven't had the overflow issue on my '10. What I have noticed is that when the auto fill shuts off it is DONE. Can't squeeze any more in-- it is full. I am okay with that. Hope it keeps working that way!

I have an 07 with 25,000 miles on it and it has been overflowing from the beginning. 1/4 full, 1/2 full, 3/4 full, doesn't matter. I just keep the Jeep on as I pump it and watch the fuel level. Usually stop at 3/4 and it slowly goes to full. That 40k start is BS.

Well all you can do is complain to the dealer and get it taken care of. Did you have this problem reported to the dealership ? If you have complained about it and they attempted to fix it or even at the least just made mention of this they are to fix it and the very least replace the tank. Good luck. By the way the mileage thing is only an approximate thing doesn't mean that it is exact.

I just traded in an '07 X with 32,000 miles on it. i bought it in Dec, and it had no overflow problems, but by Feb/Mar, it was overflowing 1/2 of the time. At first, i was thinking "what overflow problems?" Then I quickly came to understand.

I just got an '08 Rubi with 2,000 miles. I havent' even needed to fill it up yet, so we'll see...

I've noticed that the speed of the pump/the rate at which the gas tank fills up plays a part.

I keep it at the slowest speed possible. If there is only one I actually remove the nozzle and count to ten and then start filling up again.

I haven't had one problem since I started doing this.

Imo the cause of the overflow is the lack of gas fumes venting. Pulling out for a few seconds allows the gas pressure to be released.

My dealer replaced my tank today after all the other attempted fixes failed. Oddly enough, I see where some are saying new gas tanks are on back order; they agreed to replace my tank last Friday, ordered it and got it in yesterday... Of course, I went directly to a gas station and filled the tank up - no overflow.

those who are saying this is just topping off, no, the REAL problem is that it SHOOTS out without even coming near to the 'click'. I could fill the tank a few gallons under and the gas would literally shoot back out. Never topped off. I got a new tank, and all works fine now. Of course, I am sure the new tank will eventually get the problem also, so hopefully this will become an official recall/fix.

Those who only get it when topping off - you'll know when it's really a problem :P.

Jeep won't help me as I'm the second owner.
Trying the place I got it from and I filled out the form so that this becomes an official recall (hopefully)

My '07 started doing this around 60-65K miles.

As I think someone else mentioned, it's no so much an overflow, but a forceful ejection or burp of fuel that is forced out.

First thing I thought of after it happened a couple of times) was some sort of a kinked breather line that would relieve atmospheric pressure from the tank as it was filled. Nice to know the real cause is some sort of a valve, I won't bother getting under there and poking around.
