Gasing up the JK problem overflow
Overflow has been bad enough but this weekend it was a forcible burp and my pants and shoes got soaked. Just completed the NHTSA complaint form and will be heading to the dealer within the week. Luckily I'm just under the warranty radar at 34941 and the three years is up in June.
Well I am glad I am not crazy... The first time this happen to me I got soaked like the rest of you and I told my husband about it and of course like most he said it was just something I was doing wrong. When I went to fill it up again the same thing happen but this time I stayed to the side and gas went on the ground and down the side of the Jeep . I told him again and he said the same thing he said there is no reason or thing that could cause that. It is just human error well I got to laugh at him when Mr. expert went to fill it and it went on him now he says something is wrong. Looks like I will be taking to the dealer again. I still have a warranty on it so it should be covered.

So I've only read the most recent posts, but for those of you that are having this problem it is your gas tank. there is another lengthy thread on here that states the issue, which is basically a "flap" inside the tank fails and therefore won't stop it from overflowing. My 2007 JK w/ 35k miles has been doing this for 5 fill ups now. After researching this I called my buddies (service manager and mechanic) at a JEEP dealer here and asked them if they had heard of this. Sure enough they said yes. Since my JK is used and I just got past my 3 years, warranty won't cover it, but I did buy an extended warranty and they ran my VIN and said it would be covered. So i guess thats good news. However, if you look up the other thread ( https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...+tank+overflow ) some of those with the same issue are calling Chrysler and getting it covered. I may try this first, not sure yet..
I have mine scheduled to go in and get replaced after christmas, but from what I've read/heard this should fix it.. I'll let you know.
anyone in Denver with this issue, Call Jeff at Colorado Chrysler JEEP on Havana, he helped me..

mine just did this for the first time last week.........I also just rolled over 40k miles within the last week.
It hasn't done it with the past 3 fillups, but I will certainly be keeping my distance from the nozzle until I figure out if it was an isolated incident.

I just have a comment to make... I just got off the phone with my dealer about this problem and he said he has not seen one come in for this issue in the dealership but had heard about what was causing it. I told him if he goes to the nhtsa site he will see there is 177 complaints and most are from the fuel spilling out. His response was and I am sure he is thinking like Chrysler does that was there are millions of jeeps sold and only a 100 or so complaints made so in their eyes this is a low number to be concern with it. So the ones who are having this problem whether it is or not under warranty need to report it to the NHTSA site. Then Chrysler may fix it if there is enough complaints made to warrant the recall.
Well, it has happened 3 more times since my previous post. All three times it made a hell of a mess and left a good 3ft diameter puddle on the ground below my Jeep. I just filed a complaint with the NHTSA. I will also be video taping every fillup from here on out to make sure I can have something to show the dealer when I stop in. I'm out of warranty by 4k miles, but I'm hoping they are willing to play ball considering the result equals a large amount of flamable liquid being sprayed all over one of their customers.
My wifes was burping, got it "fixed." Then it was straight up vomiting all over the damn place after being "fixed." Got it "fixed." Back to just some reflux. (2-3 cups of gas). Called my dealer service rep. and he was not real happy that they didnt replace the tank the second time it was in. He said "the tanks gonna have to be replaced." It goes back in on Monday 12/21. Ill advise if that fixes it. The first two times they replaced the Filler neck.....Obviously not what needed to be replaced. Kudos to my Svc guy though. Hes hooking me up with a loaner while ours is there.
Stopped by the dealership tonight and told them what was happening. They said they have had a "bunch" of Durango's with this problem, but only one Wrangler so far. They mentioned that "there was most likely a plugged line or something in the tank" and that I would need a new fuel tank to fix the problem, but I was up shit creek asking for any sort of assistance from them because I am ~4k miles out of warranty.
I'm less than thrilled. They told me to look up the 1-800 number in my owners manual and give Chrysler a call. I didn't expect them to jump around all excited to fix the problem, but I feel they basically shrugged their shoulders and said "that sucks, better luck next time." I'm not sure where I'm going from here
