Did you have to take the shield off the manifold?

My service manager is awesome. I pulled in, told him what noise I heard, stepped on the gas and rolled forward a little and he said it sounded like an exhaust leak. Popped open the hood and spotted the crack in seconds. Ordered under warranty 5 minutes later.... but it's backordered! And, apparently, not by people on this forum!

17K miles and no noise issues, haven't really inspected it closely though. The TJ had issues early on with the cracking before they corrected it.

I wonder if any other variables are at play, like muffler (stock, modded, or relocated), any off-road impacts on the exhaust, etc.

The interesting thing is that, when the dealer went to order the new manifold (under warranty), he found they are on back order, leading us to assume that there have been quite a few cracked manifolds. I've been told this was an issue with the TJs when they first came out, so I'm just wondering how many JKs have been experiencing it as well.
Do you have a picture of the manifold crack?

Like I said, my camera is broken. If I can borrow one from someone before I get it fixed, I'll take pics.
