Default Help!!! 2012 JKU Showing Signs of Rust

I have a 2012 Rubicon that is only 4 months old with 1700 miles on it. On Friday when I was washing it, I noticed pitting on the hood and front grill that looks like rust (see pic). I haven't noticed it anywhere else, but it's pretty bad.

I tried to call the dealership service department but got their voicemail and they didn't return my call. I'll be calling them again on Monday.

Note: I do live in Hawaii and the Jeep was delivered by ship from San Diego.

The front grill is plastic, so it would be impossible for rust to form. I'd still take it back and give the dealership a good WTF?!

It's most likely rail dust imbedded in the paint. Get it professionally detailed.

I second the rail dust. You could probably just take it back to the dealer and tell them that you have tons of rail dust and they will detail it for free.

Just noticed mine with that issue. Must be rail dust. They are delivered by train and the fine particles of brake dust sticks to the fresh paint. Clay bar usually fixes it.

when i worked for gm we did use a clay bar to fix rail dust. then ran a good wax over it. i would check your rims over good if there still stock. always found some in the cracks of rims as well.

Hot metal flakes in the air stick into the paint. That steel then starts rusting. Makes complete sense.
