Default Hood light

For the first time at night I went to check something under the hood and notice no light came on when I raised the hood. I look all over thinking maybe there was a switch to turn it on but I found nothing not even the light it self. I went back and look over my specs and saw under Standard Equipment was a under hood lamp so it should be there. ( So Am I missing something???)

Hate to tell you, but the underhood lights and the footwell courtesy light on the driver's side where discontinued a LONG time ago.

A lot of members have them showing on the build sheet but in actuality are not there.

Pick one up from just about any car in a junkyard, and install. They pretty much all rely on a mercury switch, and simple +/- input.

Nice job on that under hood light, but did you consider an in-line fuse?

BTW my sheet said there was supposed to be one already there as well. So far it's just been a Maglight. I'll get to John L's solution probably the day after I REALLY need it.

You're right, I need to get a fuse in there, but I'm basically lazy. I'm also one of the few who have never had a problem with wiring in a vehicle, stock and ones I add.

Let me state once again that the light is BRIGHT. Almost rude bright.

We got our 4-door JK in late November 2006. Like you, our order summary indicated that the underhood lamp was a standard feature. As soon as we noticed we did not have one, we contacted our dealership and they ordered one for us and installed it free of charge.

About that same time, we read on this board and other Jeep boards that many new JK owners did not have the underhood lamp. Some posters stated they checked the floor stock at their local dealership and many JKs did not have the underhood lamp, although some posters found examples where all the floor samples at their dealership had the underhood lamp.

I don't know what was the situation, but apparently at some point, DC stopped making the underhood lamp a standard feature.

Well then that would explain why I could not find one. I guess like a couple of other things they changed or did away with is to try to keep competitive with the market.

Got this off EBay recently for $19.00. Easy install. I used a fuse and connected to the wire then attached to the positive battery stud. Grounded it at the ground point on the fender. Really bright, 24 feet of cord and it has the magnet on the back.

The light that Heater installed looks exactly like the one from my 1992 Chevy Z71.
