Default how do you reset the check engine light

I had my gas cap stolen and a few days later I replaced it. the next time I started the jeep after replaceing the cap, my check engine light came on. In the book it says that a missing gas cap can cause the check engine light to come on so thats what I'm assuming caused the light. But now that the new cap is on, how do I reset or clear the check engine light???

I left my gas cap off the other day, so I used a code reader I own to reset it. I think I've read here on JK-Forum that AutoZone will read and reset your codes for free. You might give them a call.

push the button that has your odometer. the error code is seen where the odometer readout is.... so push the button to clear it...
or that is what the manuel says

You can reset it with a code reader.

The gas cap code (gross evap leak) will reset itself after some time (50 miles rings a bell).

The fuel cap code will reset itself. Keep driving for a few ignition cycles.

Anytime the checkengine light comes it will reset itself when ever the condition that caused it to come on stops. It may take a little bit but it will go away.

Talked to a friend of mine at the local dealership. he said the magic number is 20 cycles of the engine. other than using a scanner to reset it be patient if it doesnt reset then there may be another problem causing it
