How sensitive is the ESP?

My ESP was coming on constantly when I first lifted and added 35's but once I added lower control arms and could get my caster set higher, no more ESP issues. I have had it come on once since, but I deserved it as i was taking a corner way too quickly.

Hahah, I was in MA driving in the same wind you were, cgwelder. Thankfully, I didn't experience any triggering of the ESP as far as I was aware of, though.

Today wasn't that bad... The day I'm talking about was a while ago when I was driving through Montana with over 50 MPH gusts.

The ESP in my '08 JK would activate if I so much as sneezed, causing a few new accidents. Got the ABS pump & module replaced under warranty when they failed after a deep swim (& presumably the control module was re-flashed with the latest software version) as now the ESP only works when I really need it & I also gained the "brake assist" feature which I did not previously have.

I followed (and followed, and followed...) the instructions in the manual (mine is on page 328). The steering wheel needs to be just about PERFECTLY aligned as described. The engine needs to be off. Counts of seven seconds needs to be just about exact - do not get fooled by lights, dings, shiny things - seven seconds as described (cue the scene from The Holy Grail with the Holy Handgrenade - )

FINALLY got it to work and now my ESP is OFF. BLD and ABS still work but all other ESP-related stuff is off. I have gone sideways once since on the road but that was my own doing.

The ESP light is always lit on my dash, and it dings once shortly after starting (much like being in 4lo) to remind you to not rely on turned-off systems but that's an OK trade-off for me... my brakes will last longer and I can do donuts and drive in deep snow/mud without fighting the brakes.

If you are having trouble with the instructions, let me know...

Default Tow Package?

To those of you with "sensitive" ESP... do you have the factory tow package? I ask because part of the tow package is an additional level of stability control called "Trailer Sway Control" (TSC).

I've noticed the ESP on my '10 JK is not sensitive at all. I'm not saying that's a bad thing as it does indeed kick in occasionally - but really only when I am messing around. My steering wheel isn't even particularly centered since the installation of a TF Leveling Kit (2" in front).

Just curious as the only feature I wanted that my JK is missing (I didn't custom order) is the factory tow package. I've been trying to sweet talk my dealer into adding the TSC programming - but am beginning to wonder if that is a good idea. I'd rather stick with my non-intrusive ESP if the TSC will cause it to become problematic.

I agree. Way to sensitive. Going to pull the fuse on my mine; only reattach when on a loose dirt road or snow/ice. Tired of it acting up on the road.

Pulling the fuse will kill the ABS. I wouldn't be surprised if it threw a code and caused it go into limp mode.

If you want if off, just disable it. That way you keep the ABS and the BLD

Wow, I've only had my Jeep a week. I was wondering what the ESP was. I guess I'll have to play with mine. We have extreme winds where I live.

As mentioned before, this is not normal operating. If it goes off that frequently, either something is wrong (lift is off, axles not centered, etc), or you're driving too quickly for a 2 ton 7ft tall vehicle.
If you want to disable it, by all means.
