Default I cannot go with 15's???

So I go to Martin tire Co. Today and ask around for rims...I drive a 2007 jk with 17 OEM rims...and the guy tells me I cannot go with a size 15 rim cause it will rub with the calipers?...cause my vehicle came with 17's....I can only go with size 16 and above....has anyone experienced this?...

You were given some misinformation. Obviously that shop has no experience with JK's.

I drive a 2007 Sahara unlimited. I changed to from stock 18's to 15x8 rims this week.

Here is a shot of the calipers. No grinding needed for me. I think it's mostly the steel rims that need grinding, and if your offset is more than 4". The backspacing on these Ion Alloy 171's is 3.5".

My tire store was good with me going to 15's because it was all my risk. I took the plunge based on info from this forum.

Yeah, later builds ('10 onwards I think) got the bigger calipers resulting in caliper contact with some aftermarket 15" rims however since yours is an '07 you'll be fine with 15s.

I have a 2011 JRU and cannot go with 15.......not sure 16's will even work around the calipers.

I'm running 15" crager soft 8's on mine. One of the 5 wheels rubbed a caliper a little bit but after driving 5' it clearanced it self. I haven't had any issues since then. Not too shabby for 45 dollars a wheel!

07's have the same rubbing caliper issue. Some wheels work, some don't...
