Ok soooo I kind took on water crossing that was a touch deeper than I thought. The engine died and I had to get towed out.
At this point I didn't realize I would be covered by insurance so I towed it home and changed all of my fluids. I did a complete detail incuding enginge and interior. I even removed the dash to get out any extra water
at this point I no one would ever know it was under water which was the goal as I planned on driving I forever.
Well about 100 miles later the transmission overheated, now it's toast
insurance is offering a used transmission that has 11,000 miles (my 08 4 door has jus under 20,000.
I'm not UNhappy with that but now I'm going to have flood damage on my car fax ruin my resale.
I'm also a bit concerned about long term effects as water was over the dc outlets
should I take the offer? Do I have any other options?

Just curious. You say you changed all of your fluids.
Did you change your trans fluid?

Did you do this locally around boston?? sorry to hear about this, hope it all works out!
Another adjuster chiming in...heh, we come out of the wood work don't we?
Some auto policies exclude damage when "off-road." I think I've only seen one and not sure who it was.
Definately present a claim for your time and materials for cleaning it.
As for "lifetime" on the tranny, that is only for their install of it. Otherwise, normal wear and tear is NOT part of a body-shop or insurance companies lifetime warranty.
So, you might have a claim for this loss as well. It is one of the "intangibles" that your adjuster will actually have to "adjust."
Strike a deal for it. I'd be happy with $400 for the warranty part of the loss.
Keep in mind though, I'm a P&C guy, I only do the liability side of auto if I'm asked. I was with a carrier for a while but they don't pay. I'm an independent. And yes, I am working right now. In between reports and my eyes are crossed! heh

I think its great that they are offering you a rebuilt tranny. If its a rebuild all the seals are new and the warranty comes with it. We all make mistakes and we are all trying to have fun out their with our rigs. I hope it works out for you and don't listen to these "career off roading professionals" telling you to suck it up. Again good luck.
