I suspected same thing but I tested that in the recent snow we had. The 4wd is working properly. I also thought maybe something was working right in the front differential

as followup it was the right side front U-joint that was the issue. Fixed and running good

Thanks for posting a follow-up. So many fail to do that, leaving all future users researching the same thing in a lurch. I'm kind of surprised that you weren't getting an obvious audible clicking like a u-joint will often do. Were you able to spot it easily with the wheel off, and just getting your hands on it and shaking it the different directions?

The mechanic jacked it up and turned the steering wheel while spinning the wheels and the u-joint started to bind up on the right side.
He stated that all the grease was gone from the Ujoint as well. Not sure on any sounds. Thanks

It's the front u joints. Jack it up, free spin each side and figure out which side has the resistance and replace the joint of have a shop do it. Or if you wheel it take an opportunity to replace front axle shafts with new assemblies. Bad joints don't always make sounds or crack caps.
Cheaper route is replacing the $20 joint.
