Default Key Questions

I have one of the keys with the security buttons on it. Dose anyone know if you can get a key cut that dose not have the security stuff in it? When I go sailing I want to be able to lock the Keys in the cubby and take a Key with me that dosent have any electronics in it.

Thanks

Nate

Yes they do! But it only unlocks the doors and you need to use the drivers door or the alarm will go off! Plus never try to start the jeep with it..

If you just lock it with that key you will be fine. Any key maker should be able to do it.

I have a Jeep Rock Key without the diode that I use when towing to keep the steering wheel unlocked but not let anyone start it and drive off. I ordered the blank online and had it cut at the local home store. The key also comes with the internal diode option if you want to use the key to start the Jeep. I hope I understood your issue correctly.

Have you or anyone tried the rock key with the transponder? According to one site it works fine on JKs, according to quadratec it doesn't. Is there anyone that can verify a transponder rock key can be programmed for a JK.

Quadratec's description also says it must be cut by a jeep dealer, which I don't buy. can anyone confirm that?

Default Tan Rock Key works with non auto door locks

I spoke to somebody at Quadratec and they said the only reason they said it needs to be cut by a Jeep Dealer is because they get them as returns when people go to "cheap-o" Key cutting places and they get messed up. They said they get half them back when a customer says "I spent $10 getting it cut and now the transponder doesn't work must be something wrong with the key, I need another and since I spent $10 getting it cut I want free shipping!" The brown/tan Rock key works but only with the Manual door locks. I can unlock (manually of course) start and run my Jeep with it.

I've seen keys on ebay that say they are programable for the security chip so they should start it and function normally, but they don't have the remote lock/unlock and panic alarm so they are smaller. Iv'e been tempted to order cause I hate the huge key and don't care about the remote control crap but so far haven't tried it.
