There was a 4-5 page thread on this which ended up with an email to Spidertrax.
Be careful...Permatex and Loctite were the same company's at one time and I have my doubts on the Red in permatex being the "Medium"....read the bottle if using either amd make sure it says medium.

FYI, I was a tech field rep for Loctite many years ago

But is there any worry about the Nylock being affected?
Which bolts?

Steering shaft bolts had them, and I believe sway bar link bolts did as well.

I read that prior post about red and blue and thought, "There's a lawsuit waiting to happen." I seriously doubt that the two companies use different colors. From the first website I found that sells Permatex thread locker ...

Permatex
#24210 - Medium Strength Blue Threadlocker, 10 ml Bottle

Permatex
#27005 - High Permanent Strength Red Threadlocker Gel, 5 Gram Twist Tube

Since you're set on using Loctite, why not just replace the Nyloc nut with a conventional one? I would think that would be the safest thing.

When I cautioned the use of Locktite near plastic, I was referring to interior panels, dashes, inner fender wells and such made from polystyrene or polybutlylene plastics. I would not believe that nylock nuts (made from nylon) would be affected. Honda cautioned motorcycle owners not to use Locktite on ther Goldwing motorcycles (whose body panels are made from polystyrene). I saw the effects first hand on my Goldwing when I ignored their caution memo.

Here's the archive of the old Spidertrax/Loctite/Permatex thread:

https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/arch.../t-149357.html

The gist of the discussion is whether or not heat s/b required to remove them and talk about which thread locker should be used. There are different Permatex "red" products and they all have different properties, one of which is whether heat is required to remove the fastener. Buried in there is text from an email from Spidertrax saying Loctite blue is fine.

Sorry for my confusion earlier. Especially sorry to karls10jk who I appeared to be "correcting".

The only reason I asked the question is in regards to mounting a front or rear bumper/tire carrier into a part that had the nut already attatched to it.
