Locked out
#11
I was standing next to my jeep and had set my keys on the
driver's seat. I absentmindedly shut the door halfway and
it was locked. 100 miles from home, I was saved by
my spare which is well hidden.

locking the doors is a waste of time. people will just slash the top if they see something they want if your doors are locked. my hope is that if someone wants to steal from me they will check the door and see it is unlocked and save me $200 by not slashing a window!

Alarms can be bypassed too... that being said I have one on my Jeep (w/hardtop)... and I'd agree w/the above post that said hard tops are more difficult to break into and they would be compared to breaking into any other car... i.e. you'd have to break a window... which btw can be done quietly as well... you just need a little packing tape On my CJ (soft top) I just always left it unlocked w/nothing of value in it. With my JK (hard top), I lock it, arm the alarm, but still keep nothing of value in it. I just want to hedge my bet on my Jeep being there when I come back out to the parking lot. If a thief has a choice between a rag top w/no alarm and something else that has an alarm he will always take the easy route (most of the time).

Not to be sarcastic......
Bet you keep the keys in your hand next time.
I once locked the keys in the Freightliner once. Waiting an hour in the pouring rain to have the lock lady in the truck in under 30 seconds, pushed me to keep a spare mounted in a box on the frame.
