Default Manually disable the passenger side airbag?

In anyone aware of a way to manually disable the passenger side airbag? I'm going to be installing a computer mount for use off-road and I want the airbag off so it has no chance of launching the notebook at anyone.

Thanks!

try disconnecting the wireing harness to the scale uinder the seat and see if it disables.

if so than splice into its wires with a switch

or you could just keep a 30lb weight on the seat when no one is sitting in it

What would be the indication it is disabled?

I don't believe there is a weight system in the passenger seat. Regardless he didn't want the notebook to hit anyone (in the seat) when deployed.

I would be concerned of a liability problem if you have someone that really gets hurt and that bag doesn't go off in an accident due to it being disabled.

My 09 Tacoma had this and my laptop back would upset it all the time.

With that said it has not caused a problem in my JKU and I don't see any references to it having it on the owners DVD.

I agree, in the end I think disabling it if it did would be opening a can of worms down the road.

Yes, many vehicles have seat mats to detect a underweight passenger. I don't believe my 2dr has anything that plugs into the seat (when I last removed it). Also many 2 seat vehicles have a mechanical disable which we do not have either, for under weight passengers/car seats.

I'm pretty sure the seat had a weight sensor. If you push lightly on the seat the "Passenger Airbag Off" light will come on. That would be my indication that it was disabled. I'll have to take a look under the seat at the wiring. I don't have a service manual yet so I'm working in the dark.

I'm not worried about liability. It's pretty damn unlikely my good friend in the passenger seat will sue me. Besides, if we get in an accident off-road it's not likely the airbag would help.

it one of the buttons next to your hazard lights button, but its not a button its just a light
it should illuminate for a few seconds during a startup

but more importantly is wether or not to have it disabled.

if there is going to be a notebook there and a person sitting there, you wouldnt want the airbag to blast a notebook into someones face (expecially if it was just a fender bender)
but on the other side you dont want the liability of disabling a safety device.

would not the best practice be to have the passenger hold the notebook in thier lap and fold away the stand, but to also have a switch to disable the airbag when nobody is in that seat and the stand is out.

i dont know,
maybe the best choice would be to find a different place for the notebook entirely
