Default Mud and Clutch - Bad Combo

Here are a few pictures of my buddies clutch on his 2009 Sahara. He got stuck in a big mud hole and decided to try and get out going forwards and back. Just a reminder to not push the clutch in under mud. One positive thing is that he installed a centerforce clutch which is unbelievable in performance compared to the stock clutch.

Wow that's a lot more than I thought could ever get in there! I guess "sealed system" means only when the clutch is out?

Yeah, apparantly it can't be airtight for the same reason the diffs, tranny & transfer case aren't; heat causes air to expand & it's gotta go somewhere. I asked a mechanic recently why they can't just have a breather tube like the diffs & tranny have, but he explained that those slots in the bellhousing underneath are designed to let air in for cooling, & also to allow the old friction material from the clutch disk to fall out & not remain inside fouling the components.

Still, pity there's no way to keep the mud out though.

Oh crap I'm kinda scared now I was driving and the road I was driving on eventually turned into mud and mud was splashing everywhere underneath me. But this is probably from a complete submersion then shifting right?

This is exactly where it happened. Us guys with the 35's and lifts didn't have any problems. Of course we didn't get stuck and didn't push in the clutch. He has learned his lesson now.

any time I get in mud that deep I'll put it in water up to the doors and drive slowly to clean out the brakes and as much out of clutch as possible.

I realize its sometimes just not that easy but
I'm lucky, there is a river just before we get back to town that is perfect for this.

If I don't do this my problem is mud in the whells causing unballanced wheels.

Ouch....Always - 4LO on any H2O or mud crossings.....you don't need to depress the clutch to start if you do stallout.

I went into deep mud a few times... Is there a way to clean the bell housing? My clutch does feel a little looser than it used to be and I was told I had mud in bell housing. I'm no mechanic so I don't get too deep into drive line parts.
