new eng for 09
So how many 09 are getting new engs? I havent heard of any yet, but I'm just checking. Mine is a 09 rubi that spun the connection rod bearing, at 50200 km (32000 miles). It has been maintenained by me, never missed an oil change or any other required maintenance. Always used syntethic oil with mopar filters ( cheaper to buy from dealer with my discount). I had the start up tick since new but only when its below 0 c (32 f). But I've had no other major problems with it. So how many other 09 need new engines?
I started hearing some noise at the 1400-2200 rpm range that I thought was ping. Only really heard it when I was besides of a wall or something to get the echo off of. And it only really did it under a load (speeding up, short shifting, going up the hills), took it in to the dealer for the noise but they could not hear it, and they said it was as per type. Ok I wont worry about it then. Then 300 km later, the noise is getting louder, and a bit more frequent. Plus it started to do it when you reved up the engine from idle, clutch in and out, in gear and in neutral.
Any time it was idling you could not hear any noise, but when rev it was very disstinked, it was a metallic tick that went up and down with the rpm range. It was closer to the back of the engine, on the driver side. The jeep still drove and ran fine, it just made noise. You never felt anything out of the ordinary except for the noise.
I do all my own oil changes with synthetic oils and mopar filters, every 5000 to 6000 kms. The only other problem that I've had is they had to replace 1 plug for failing and making it idle poorly.
Once it started making the noise, it got louder very fast. If you took your time and reved it up slowly you could keep it knocking all the way up to 4000 rpm, but usually it got quiter after 2200 rpm.
The jeep has not been off road since the fall, all the areas are now opening up and was getting ready to head out again. Most of my driving during the week is city (40 km round trip to work and home) and the weekend I went out the the mountains for the day (Hi-way) (300 km round trip). So it was not related to an off road mistake ( unless it was missing the trails). It was not a temp related either it was not to cold or too hot was a nice late spring day out. The oil pressure light never came on ( no gage to tell you the pressure so not sure of that). It was full of oil, just did an oil change 200 km ago. (checked before it went into the dealer) Temp never changed. It is a stock eng with NO after market parts on it. NO tunner, or CAI, nothing of the sorts. Was the way it left the factory.
Most of the driving is city, but it does get some hi-way clicks. I have a small trailer (300 lbs ish ) that it pulls when I need to go to the dump, but that is the only towing that it does.
Only mods done to it are a TF2.5" lift and a warn winch and bumper. Still on stock wheels and tires, stock gearing.
Thats about all I can think of. Nothing too out of the ordinary in my mind, I was harder on my car before the jeep.
So back to the question who else has had there 09 engine replaced? Any other thoughts on why my engine spun the bearing?

Might be getting a new motor tomorrow I have this spinning noise that is at idle and with rpm's. I think it is the water pump but we will see i think its internal.
Here is the link to the noise!!

Makes the noise clutch in or out, in gear out of gear doesn't matter.

Now that you say it thats is what it sounds like I never could describe the noise in words..... I hate those little people!
Anyone have an idea what it could be ????

No new motor they said it was the belt or the belt tensioner.. But really don' think it is it but will go back if it isn't. They are also replacing 1-3 gears and syncro's because it pops out of 1st and 3rd sometimes. Pick it up on friday.
I noticed the OP said he's had the dry-start rattle from new. Although many people say that it's not harmful to the motor & all the noise is just the lifters banging around until they get oil pressure, the fact is that the motor is running at 1500RPM (the speed that the computer idles the motor from cold start) with no oil pressure for 2 or 3 seconds. Although the bearings will have some residual oil film on them at startup, after a few seconds running at 1500 RPM without ony more oil getting to them damage will be done. This damage to the bearing surface may only be slight and microscopic, but after repeated cold starts over time it all builds up, and it seems to be no coincidence that 40K miles seems to be the common mileage that these motors tend to all spin bearings & throw rods (40K miles= about 2 years of average use of mainly short daily to/from work trips with some weekend driving thrown in, and around 1400 dry starts).
While many people who've had bearings let go have also had oil burning motors that have caused the sump to run dry & thus starve the oil pump causing the bearings to run without lubrication, others like the OP have don't have this oil burning issue & have still spun bearings. It's also interesting that everyone who's had an oil analysis done shows reults with very high copper levels that have been attributed to the camshaft bearings, and camshafts are known to be very susceptable to wear at cold startup.
