Default Which Oil Filter?

I am running Mobil 1 5-20. What filter should I be using? I bought the oil at Wal-Mart and they had a Fram PH35614 filter for $3.48.
Nice price, but I thought the filter should be a little more substantial? Any suggestions? Thanks.

i think you meant 3614
which is the correct 1 they list
some guys are using bigger is better theory but if u change your oil as u should be you will be ok with that filter.
i usually run a fram TG filter (tough guard)
all from wally world got to love them prices.

I just went back to the stock MOPAR filter after having issues with engine clatter upon start-up with a Mobile 1 filter (others have had it as well). So I would just recommend avoiding that, other-wise I would use something well regarded, and you can't go wrong with the stock filter.

You are correct with the number of the Fram filter. What do you mean engine clatter? I have used a Mobil 1 filter in many applications and never had problems. What do you think the reason for the clatter is?

Is the Fram filter good enough to use with synthetic oil? Just thought there was a filter that did a better job of filtering and flowing than the cheaper ones.

The clatter is a rapid knocking sound for about the first second or two upon start-up after the Jeep sits for several hours. Apparently the anti-drain back valve on many (or all?) of the Mobile filters isn't working well which creates a void at start-up. When I pulled the Mobile filter, barely a drop of oil came out, which confirms that it was empty. Everytime I've pulled the MOPAR filter oil spills out big time. Since going back to the MOPAR unit I am clatter free.

I've have used Mobile filters in other applications as well with no issues, not sure what the deal is with the JK filters, but a lot of people have had the problem. Oddly some claim no issues though.

I had this with the mobil 1 filters too. I switched to amsoil and it disappeared. Although Woods said he got clatter from an amsoil filter too, so who knows...

I will not use a Fram filter, Ive seen one split on one of our diesel vans and drain the oil. Seized up the motor. The local advanced auto has told me about about 5 more that split. They were all on diesels, but I still wont touch them for any vehicle.

Anybody else using the Supertech filters? They're made by Champion Labs.
I've seen them cut open next to Frams and they've got lots more filter media and more substantial build quality...

I've had good luck with the Mobil1 filters and have used on both my 94XJ since 95, and the wifes JK since early 07.
I've never experienced the knock that posters speak of, but will continue to watch and listen.
As for good filters, this is a very good study, and has been posted many times.

This one is basically for motorcycles, however a gas engine is a gas engine, and an oil filter is an oil filter.
Here is another well done study.

Check it out, then you decide.
