Default Poor gas milage on stock 2011 JK

I would like to start by saying hello to everyone as I am new here. Thank you in advance for what I am sure will be plenty of help/advise in the future.

Now for my issue/question. I have a stock 2011 unlimited sport. I am not entirely sure of the gear ratio, but it has the towing package. My issue is with gas mileage. I m getting approx. 12.7 local city driving, and about 16 highway (keeping it around 55mph). This is my 4th wrangler, and my second unlimited, so I am not expecting great gas mileage, but my 2008 unlimited was getting about 15 local city, and about 19-21 highway. I haven't moved, so all the roads are the same. I have tried feathering the gas pedal as best I can, and I still can't get any mileage. I have noticed that I can't coast as well as my 2008 did, it seems like the engine is holding the vehicle back until I break about 33mph. After 33 mph, it seems better, but I still have to keep my foot on the gas to go down a hill. My 2008 was a half door model, so I know my 2011 is heavier with full doors, but I didn't expect this much of a drop. Both vehicles had the towing package, and soft tops. I have searched this forum and I have only found 1 other post from May showing this poor of mileage and no one seemed to have any answer at that time. ( https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...so-low-231525/ ) I am just wondering if this is a problem and is hit or miss and something that I should try to get my dealership to look into, or are all the 2011 models worse on gas? I thought the mechanics from the 2008 - 2011 were the same. Thank you again for any and all input.

Sorry to hear of your problem. I also have a 2011 JKU. I have 3.73 gears and am getting 18 city 21 highway. Sounds like its stuck in four wheel or the brake is grabbing. I'd get it looked at soon. Doesn't sound normal to me. Check your hill decent control too.

Auto or stick? If its an Auto then maybe you are not going into overdrive, or hill assist is engaged as prior post mentions.

Thank you for the quick responses. It is an automatic. I am not sure how to check my hill decent, but I will check on my drive home in 30 minutes if I feel a difference if I turn the overdrive off, perhaps it is just not going into OD. Tire pressure is good. The gas mileage has been this bad since I bought it almost 1 year ago. It actually increased a little once I hit about 8,000 miles. I know gas mileage is bad, but sadly when you bring up gas mileage to a lot of jeep enthusiasts, you get the standard " It is a jeep, they don't get good gas mileage". thank you all for providing valuable feedback.

chyuup. i have a 2011 3.73 manual and the 18/21 always in that range atleast.

computer and hand calculations.

since tires and hill assist have been discussed....could bad gas cause that problem? i know in our jetskis had bad gas and they rode horrible.

is this the first time it happened? i assume its been going on longer then 1 tank <----welp forget that you just responded. in the above post.

It is a button under the climate control, the icon on the button is a jeep going down hill. When engaged it will act similar to down shifting a manual to allow for engine breaking.
