Default Power locks & windows, but no alarm - securing the trunk

Does anyone else have a JK with power locks and windows but no alarm. I originally thought they came together as a package and assumed when I bought my 07 Rubi that it had an alarm because it had power locks and windows. Mine has no alarm and the dealer tells me it is not supposed to have one. I don't really care about the alarm, but I think the lack of an alarm may be relevant to my problem securing my trunk ( I have a flexitrunk and am looking at getting the new tuffy cover).

I know most people who have power locks say the switch deactivates shortly after the jeep is turned off, as soon the alarm light starts flashing, so that no one can just reach in and open the trunk by flicking the switch. Mine does not deactivate and of course there is no alarm light. I can reach in the window at anytime, hit the switch and unlock the trunk. My hope would be there is some programing I can do to fix this. Dealer is useless and did not even know the switch was supposed to deactive. I know i could disconnect the tailgate wires, but I really don't want to because locking and unlocking the tailgate is the the biggest advatage of the power locks. I drop off and pick up kids severaal times a day who need to put gear (football pads, etc) in the trunk. Any ideas??

I had the same worries...

I installed an aftermarket alarm with 2 microwaves sensors. One for the trunk and one in the front. Now when I have the top off, I still have security for the jeep and it's content.

I added an aftermarket alarm for less than $100. I had them put a pin switch under the hood so now if anyone opens any of the doors, tailgate, or hood the alarm goes off. You can also add a proximity sensor that will sense if anyone reaches inside for like $50.

I didn't know there was an option to get power locks and not get the factory alarm. Everything I have read said they came together...

Just to make sure, how are you locking it? There are only two ways to arm the alarm. You need to either lock the jeep with the remote in the key or push the power lock button while the door is open. Then just shut the door. At this point like you already said the alarm light right above the temp. gauge should start to blink rapidly. When the blinking slows down after about a minute the alarm is now on.

Our '09 JK 4-door has the factory key fobs that have the lock/unlock buttons and a panic button. The only observable indication of an alarm is the small blinking dash light...that is all that "shows" you have an alarm on our JK.

Once you close the door and hit the lock button...the doors lock, and as mentioned by other owners, after say 30 seconds, all the interior electric window and lock buttons are basically dead. You can of course reach in an manually push the interior door lock "disk button" to unlock the door...once you open the door the alarm sounds.

I recently bought and installed the Tuffy Security Box and love it. Seems reasonably secure and was an easy install. If you do not have an alarm...yet wish to have the Tuffy Box work for you: I would think that disconnecting the electric lock mech. for the rear trunk door would give you the security of a "stay locked" door no matter what lock buttons were pushed when. You would just have to lock/unlock the rear door with your key all the time.

I would think that perhaps a knowledgeable dealer could advise if the OEM type alarm could be added aftermarket...I have to admit though that it is a rather limited system as far as sensors...basically just a door/hood system as far as I can tell, there are likely more advance alarms available from other vendors.

Good luck!

I thought the alarm and power locks only came together too, but was apparently wrong. I can lock the doors with the remote, come back an hour later, reach in and open the door through the window and NO alarm. Plus there is no blinking light. I asked the dealer, they looked up the vin and assured me my jeep came from the factory without an alarm, but with power locks and windows.

I really don't care much about the alarm, almost like it better without one. I just wish I could lock the trunk/tailgate and not worry about it being unlocked so easy. I assume that the failure to deactive the switch may be related to the lack of an alarm since everyone says the switch deactives once the alarm light changes. Kinda seems silly to buy a fairly secure tuffy cover when someone can just reach in teh door, hit the switch and open the tailgate.

I would take it to another dealer. I just looked again on jeeps website and there is not an option to get the power locks without the factory alarm. I just doesn't add up.
