On topic...should it be detonating that bad under no load at idle with just carbon buildup?
I hope it is not internal metal to metal contact instead.
These motors are known to get heavy carbon deposits on the valves. Some of this is caused by driving style and cheap gas, and I personally think the less than great pcv system plays a part too.

This can definitely cause it. They will be switching to summer blend fuels soon which will help.

Couldn't upload video of this sound but I put it on YouTube as powerstroke noise if you look on there maybe you can hear the noise I'm taking about.

Its only when its warmed up, and it is only if I just burp the throttle a little. After it gets above 1500 rpm it's back to normal sound. Im thinking exhaust manifold. But you can see why I say powerstroke diesel sound.
