I suspected that maybe it was already removed, so I tried just lifting it with a bit of force, but no luck. Can someone look at the pic I've attached and tell me if that's what it looks like after the bolt has been removed?

Argh!
Def removed. Spray some wd40 in there and pulllllll

Everything mentioned above is good advice. Also wanted to say make sure you remove the doors at a 90 degree angle, that way when they finally come out of the posts you have less chance to rub paint against paint. Also putting them on at the same 90 degree angle makes it easier as well.

I've had a 95 TJ (half doors) and a 08 JK. This was the best method for me. But now I have an 11 JK... the interior door handle is different, not really much to grab on to. Any 11 owners out there taken em off yet? Any advice? ... still got a few weeks before its nice enough to try

I got my Jeep in June '08, took the doors off July '08. The nuts never went back on. Makes for no brainer door removal. Not much concern with doors staying on in a car wreck. Most cases they get smashed in preventing them from opening anyway.

they are called door hinge nuts and the MSRP at your dealer is $1.60 each. I was in my 20's once and was gonna live forever, but now I'm a bit further along I would advise you NOT to run your rig without these nuts in place. The Wrangler has a 2 component design that could lead to bad news for your heirs....(1)The hinge design allows removal of these nuts. (2)The exterior door handles have a PUSH IN button design. Get into a sideswipe accident scenario and get the door handle button area mashed in and the door pushed or pulled up and back and this door will go byebye as you watch it. Not a good situation in a wreck.

you have a reallly good stealership, i went to get some new ones and they are $4.45 each!! thats $35 for all of them, its rediculous!!! so thats when i decided to not put them back on either just like the tj i had. if i send you $15 can you get me some and ship them too me? lol

also on the removal having half doors helps too just take the tops off and they are much lighter and easier to hold on too..

I stand corrected, 3:43 am ain't my clearest vision point. $3.15 @wholesalemopar.com. $2.97 on ebay.

On the same note, it's a whole hell of a lot safer to be driving with doors on and not have the nuts installed then to be driving without doors at all. I'm just not convinced that having those nuts in place would make a significant difference in a two car collision. Maybe in a collision/roll over situation would those kind of forces happen
