Default rim protection for winter

So I am looking for ideas on what can work to protect my rims for the winter the gloss finish on them may not fare too well against the snow and salt of the city. Does anybody have any ideas on what I can place on them to protect them from the salt besides plasti dipping them?

If one is that particular (I would be if I had those rims also) is to get second set of a winter tires with off road/winter rims.. (4 for the road, tire cover for the spare) and place the good set in storage till next spring.

The amount of road salt used in Western New York did a job on my WJ's alloy wheels in just 2 winters. I'd recommend a set of winter wheels. Winters here in Fredericksburg are a lot milder and alloy wheels and cars hold up a lot better.

Wd40 doesn't ruin the finish?

Nehh. I just spray on a rag. I also use windex on a rag. Anything to keep some of that luquid salt of my wheels.

FLUID FILM... End discussion.
WD is solvent based and will fade paint. Fluid film is safe for almost everything, yes ... It will attract shit but easily cleans off. Reapply as needed.
Smells good too. http://www.fluid-film.com/
I bought a can at Napa. Everything I use it on is rust free. Awesome stuff.

Edit: in case anybody's wondering. Fluid film will not spin off that easily. I coated the slip joint of my axle shaft. It's still coated since spring.

this stuff.

There are many brands of it. Basically goes on like spray paint and will wash off. Dries into a film, non penetrating, protective, etc. There is another type I saw for the body paint. Same basic method. Sold at advance and auto zone.

WD40? Never, not anymore. When it was your only option? Sure. With what is available today? Never again. No need for it.
