Normallly Chrysler will approve this repair, and it is common. The shop that repairs them will either order new hinges, or just bead blast the existing ones depending how bad they are pitted. Had mine done a long time ago and they look brand new.

Will buying stainless hinges solve this problem? Mine aren't rusting but the hinges on the door are oxidizing and sometimes leave a white trail after they get wet. Seen stainless hinges in Quadratec and was curious if they would be any better.

you might want to rethink that. when you have two dissimilar metals one acts as an anode. one will sacrifice its self ie (rusting) I personally would rather the hinged be the anode then the door.

Had mine done in January, on 2012! 3 others were also there. No charge.

finally found the time to take to visit the dealer. They took pictures of the hinges and are sending them in to see if they will be covered. I told the service writer that I'm aware of the TSB on the hinges. He said that Chrysler may just say its normal corrosion. They said they should have a response by tomorrow. I think part of the problem is the factory paint is too thin. If you put a trouble light up to the paint in various spots you can see the primer through the paint.

I was washing our Unlimited the other day and noticed that the hinges are getting REALLY bad. It looks like the Rubi tires have kicked up rocks in a few spots and dinged the paint right off the hinges. There's also spots where it looks like the paint is starting to deteriorate, not rock chip related at all. They're starting to rust and turn ugly. Looks like I'll take a copy of this TSB into the dealer with me...
