Sahara Vs X
Here's a few things you get with the Sahara that don't come on the X(some available as options, not too sure which ones though):
power windows/locks
security alarm
better quality stain resistant seat fabric
1 year of sirius
HD suspension w/gas shocks
keyless entry
premium instrument cluster
hood insulation
Infinity sound system
painted fenders(could have done without these)
18" wheels(could have done without these too)
If I was getting a jeep as my weekend toy, then I would go with the X. But mine is my daily driver so I am glad I got my Sahara with the creature comforts that make my trips much more bearable.

Buy the X and then get Sahara stuff cheap off of here. Just be sure to try to buy face to face. I got Sahara wheels and tires and running boards off this forum pretty cheap. I peeled off the x stickers and put a 2 inch suspension lift and some other little mods to make it mine. Like an earlier post said, the X is a blank canvas.
**one caveat: be wary of dealing with folks who are farther away from you than you are willing to drive if they don't ship after they have your money**

Here in Dubai we dont get the Rubi!! The X is called Sport here, Sahara comes with 17 inch wheels, power doors & windows is optional. The major difference between Sport & Sahara is painted fenders, fog lights, leather steering, Alloy look trim, side steps, compass & thermometer. Price wise the difference is only $1700 between the 2.
I was just giving you grief
I've learned that you can wheel on the weekends, and still get to work. You just need to know what your limits are, and don't let your buddies talk you into doing something beyond your limits. Wheeling is a lot of fun, and you can still have that fun without pushing your luck and breaking things. I have a group of guys I wheel with- some are much braver than me, and some of the others aren't brave enough to do the things I do. We all have our limitations- and we all know what each other will/won't do... And we all drive to work on Monday... Well, except for some of the crazier ones that break stuff every time.

I wheel my DD on weekends in the NJ Pine Barrens just by riding up and down the many sandy trails that are there. Just having the top and doors off and being in the woods can be fun, too.

It's still driving where you wouldn't take a normal car.
As for a Sahara, the painted fenders look to be a worry if you go into any wooded areas. I don't mind scratches on the black plastic fenders but I've tried to avoid scratches on the paint if possible.

Good point. I guess i was assuming that people were mainly referring to serious rock crawling or deep mudding. I wouldnt be afraid to take my Sahara on the trails you describe below.
I can't agree more with this statement. Wheeling doesn't have to be just climbing up rock faces or being hood deep in mud.

Good post. For me, I like the matching fenders and the look of the 18" wheels as well. I knew I wouldnt be doing a lot of off roading, so I went with what suited me. Sure I could have saved some cash going with an X, but I'd probably still be saying to myself, I probably should have got the Sahara.
I got a sahara, because all of my scratches on my fenders can be waxed or buffed out, I don't feel like having to buy new fenders every 3 years from them fading to gray, and having to scrub wax residue out of them. I also love my sirius it came with, and The power group is great in a 4 door. I am not Stretch Armstrong and can't reach all 4 windows from the driver's seat.
The 18" Wheels are not the best for choosing off-road tires for price, but if that's the case buy some 15's and put some 35's on them.
The keyless entry is not necessary, but is nice to have some kind of alarm.
My Sidesteps are gone, I traded another Jeeper Straight up for his Rock Rails.
YES essentials seats; well I realized how nice those were after I had the top off and a bird decided to relieve itself.
All in all it's up to you, drive each one and figure out what is best for you.
Everyone here that drives an X will say buy an X, you can make it whatever you want.
Everyone that drives a Sahara will say the same, and everyone that drives a Rubicon will say that you can only get the Transfer case with it.
Good luck to you and whatever you pick, Don't forget to wave!

I used to worry a bit about scratching the painted fenders on mine and then someone keyed the whole driver side.
If i would have gotten the X or Rubi there would have been less paint for that a-hole to key.....

It wheels just fine too. But better tires helped with that...
If it were only my decision, I would've gotten a Rubicon. But that's what life and marriage are all about; killing you slowly, one day at a time by forcing compromise down your throat.

It even got called "pretty" 3 times during the trip.

What tires did you put on that bad boy?
If I had gotten something besides the Sahara, I never would've gotten the wife on board for our 2-week 7300-mile national parks roadtrip.

(wow that sounds weird) I like being rough on my stuff. The saraha is very pretty, but i would be hesitant to have too much fun in it.
