shifter bezel??

Default shifter bezel??

i was wondering if anyone knew how to take off the shiftre bezel? i tried to take off the hex type screws but started to strip them. it looks like its just part of the plastic for show.i want to paint mine and im lost. can someone help me out. thanks

It is not screwed in. You just have to pull the front portion off and the whole thing comes off as a big piece. The pieces are held together by plastic "rivets" that will break if you separate the bezel from the shift boot. I bought the brushed aluminum ring and just put that on. My plastic bezel cracked when I took it apart. It is a royal piece of junk, the metal one looks much better.
