snow chains
On a stock Rubicon, I wouldn't think chains are even necessary.
I drove a stock 05 Rubicon last winter while I was waiting for my JK-
I pulled a dodge 3500 up a grade in the snow and it did just fine in low.
I would think if you let a little bit of air out that you would even have more traction.
...4 Jeeps later- that is my humble opinion.

I agree, most likely you don't need them on road.
But fact is that I have to have them on board in case of snow on the roads where I live. Cops can give you a 126$ Ticket here and even block you from going ahead when snowy and THEY call for chains

Anybody verified if the manual says not to use chains? I can't imagine why that would be the case. If all goes according to my master plan, I'll be moving to a city next summer that I won't live in without having tire chains for the winter.
The following is from the manual and it mentions not enough clearance?
TIRE CHAINS
Install chains on rear tires only. Tire chains may be
installed on all models except the Sahara and Rubicon. Use chains on P225/75R16 tires only. P245/75R16,
P255/75R17, P255/70R18, and LT255/75R17 tires do
not provide adequate clearance.
