Default Soft too splitting and cracked

Good morning everyone,

I bought a use soft too recently and I understand it's going to have some wear and tear but is this normal?!?!

It's splitting open above the drive and passenger doors where it folds when down.

What can I do about this? I was thinking of taking it to an upholsterer to see if they can stop it from getting worse but I really don't want to spend a fortune, otherwise I would have just bought a new one

:/ ugh.

Is it splitting at the seems seams or in the center of the fabric? If it is splitting at the seams and the material isn't dry rotted an upholster can fix it but it might cost you almost as much as buying a new one. Since you have the hardware replacement wouldn't be too expensive like $350.00.

I'm thinking the same as ^^. Since you have the hardware you can buy a Smittybilt top( just the top). Right now 4wheelparts has them for $299. Mine is tearing at the seams and I'm thinking of going the same route.

I bought a used SoftTop from somebody with door surrounds and everything for under 300 bucks. There is been a ton on craigslist and these boards. Or the route mentioned above. I'm just not so sure that they're worth fixing unless it was something you could do yourself relatively easy. Good luck!

Just did the same thing, money's tight right now. Figure I'll get this season out of it then pick up a replacement cloth for it next spring

The problem with patching that area is that it is stressed by the fold. When patching, you put a bunch of holes in it to secure the patch, which makes the material at high risk to rip at the new holes. My old top did the same in the same area.. you can patch it but be careful with it. If you take it to a canvas shop make sure they patch it from both sides.

Your best bet is definitely replacing the top and keeping your hardware... You can try to patch it to get by for a few weeks but it looks like the fabric worn out.
