It would probably be an easier fix just to fabricate two straps that wrap around the bars and snap together or just sew the straps together. The design on the front of the factory strap sucks, the two rivets are on top of the bar, instead of being like the back, which wraps around the bar and attaches at the bottom (takes some of the stress off the rivets).
