I'm not sure I'd say the connector itself is integral. I'd tell you that cuz neither of my connecters even stay in enough to lock in place ever since my first regear. It's the oddest thing. I push them on, they stay, but if I were to just pull em they'll come off. I only bring it up cuz I don't think that sucker has to be shoved on and locked in place to get a good signal. (only my experience with em).

Also, 6+ yo jeep now, I don't think a leaking rear seal is terribly abnormal and doesn't mean abuse by the previous owner. Just one of those things that has to be done from time to time. Have you changed the gear oil in that recently? Overfilling and clogged breather tubes don't help seals. You might just double check that breather tube. Shot in the dark, but ya never know.

I did the gear oil yesterday. By the looks of it, probably was never done before. New speed connector is on. I may have hurt the old connector by jamming the voltmeter probes in the end. What made me think that is the code went from c1020 to c102A. The "A" code lists a faulty connector as one of the potential causes. Now for the test drive.

Ok. Test drive not good. But now I get a new code. C1027 which is an erratic value on the rear left speed sensor. Ugh. Close to giving up.

It fought me. Not 100% sure, but I may have got it working. I changed the Left rear speed sensor connector. That didn't work, but it changed the error code to "erratic signal". I then recalled that a hall sensor is sensitive to noise. I had done a crappy solder job because I couldn't find flux and I had only lead free solder. Tonight I corrected that, and I made sure to twist the wires around each other to reduce noise. Took about a 6 mile test ride and it's ok (for now).

I won't believe it until I drive around some more! It was an intermittent issue.

My o2 sensors worked for like 5k miles before the code came back. i hate the electronic bs on this thing some times. Post back if it does.

I should go check my connectors, or maybe just twist up the wires. I've been fighting an intermittent wheel speed sensor code for a while and it'd be nice to not have the ABS/TC shut off randomly. Plus it might be one step closer to getting rid of the CEL. Keep us posted on whether or not it comes back.

Where at in NJ you from? If not far from Brick you could borrow my code reader which could possibly pinpoint which wheel. So far I have driven about 20 miles with many stops & starts. Lights are still out. I could not believe that fixing the poor solder job and twisting the wires was the fix, but so far so good.

I'm about an hour north of Brick but I have a code reader, it's the right rear sensor. I've had the code on and off for a while now but gave up after replacing the sensor, figuring it was a wiring issue. It hadn't occurred to me the connector might be bad or it could be something as outside the box as twisting the wires. I've also gotten the code for the yaw sensor (I forget what Jeep calls it) and I went so far as to replace that with no resolution. I have a switch on my traction control that I suspected might have a poor connection but I just never took the time to chase all the wiring to find it. Checking connectors/twisting wires will take all of 5 minutes though so it's worth trying first before putting more time in. Even if it fixes the wheels speed sensor and leaves me with another lingering TC issue, that's one step closer to fixed.
