Default Squeaky Front End

Just a little info for those of you with the horrible front end squeak/grinding noise. I took my Jeep in to have it looked at for the squeak and at first they did the typical "We cant reproduce the noise," (Like I make up shit so I can go see the mechanic) then after a ride along with the service manager he agreed it needed a new front pinion seal and so I leave thinking cool my Jeep's finally getting fixed...wrong. I was called back down to be informed that DC has sent out memo's to all Parts/Service departments claiming that a Service bulletin is being worked on and until it is released no new pinion seals are to be put in. I asked for a copy of the "memo," and sure enough DC is basically saying that the pinion seal in other cases has only worked temporarily and they are searching for the permanent fix. So I guess those of us with the "squeak," will just have to wait until DC finds the fix.

I wonder if this is the same sound I was encountering, kind of a rotational squealing that started around 15-20mph. You could really hear it when driving next to a building or guardrail. Mine would only flare up after driving at highway speeds. Anyways, dealer ended up replacing both front wheel bearings and it seems to have ceased.

It started off really faint and at around 800 miles it became really loud. It is only noticeable after I get off the freeway after a commute and like one of you mentioned is really prominent when you drive by a cement k rail or on a city street. Pretty sure it's not the issue relating to the most recent TSB (clutch disc) b/c it's an auto. I guess I'll just have to be squeaky until DC figures out the issue.

I have the same sound. I haven't taken it into the dealer yet. I couldn't tell if it was a break caliber not letting go or the driveshaft. I was leaning towards the driveshaft since the noise didn't seem to be effected by break pressure. Mine has not done it since the weather has gotten colder.

AH!!!!!!! Where have you guys been?!!!? I must have posted 3 times about this mysterious squeal/squeak from my front and and only got a few replies....now all of a sudden theres like 10 with the same problem!! lol I thought i was going nuts and the only person with this problem.

I get this noise after i been driving for a few miles. Nice and warmed up. You cant hear the squeal at normal driving but then you are going slow in the parking lot or along a wall or guard rail...it sounds like brakes or fan belt squealing. Stops when i do. NO clutch...i have auto. It snot engine related. does not change with rpm
  • First trip to dealer: no noise found - i had to go down and show the tech. He heard it then said it sounds like an axel seal. Make another appt for tomorrow.
  • Second trip: Clean axel seals - said it was fixed. I picked it up and noise still there
  • Third trip: showed the tech again the noise under rail road bridge. real loud and said he hears it loudley. Said it needs new hubs.
  • fourth trip: new hubs put on. told it was fixed. Its not. 5 miles down the road its doing it again.
  • fith trip tomorrow!!! TBA

Thanks for the info. I have been to my dealer a few times, which is only an exercise in frustration. I talked to the tech that last time i was in there, he seemed to care, but did not have the time to really into it.

Hopefully we hear from DC soon.

Matt

The tech was sort of hinting that this may a bigger fix than just a new pinion seal or bearings. He told me any time DC puts a freeze on fixing an issue it's usually a pretty big deal. His guess was a faulty design in the new styl d30 but he didn't elaborate on what exactly that fault would be. My new solution is to tell people it's the brake drying feature like on the BMW's I'd like to say Im mad but it's under warranty, DC's on the road to fixing it and... I still get more chicks with my squeaky Jeep than other guys get with their compensation mobiles (lifted full size road queens).
