Default Storage ideas for freedom top

Hey guys, let me start by saying this forum is great, any time I have questions about the jeep I can usually find the answer to them here.

My current issue is finding a place to store my top. Its the 3-piece freedom top. I can take the front two pieces off and easily slide them in the back (I removed the rear seats) however I really dont have an idea where to keep the huge back piece with the back window. I dont have a garage/basement, I basically live in a apartment.

I guess Im just asking you guys: "what do you do with your tops"?

I suppose I could haul it in my place, but ill have to venture up some steps then ill have to try fitting it through the door. Ill only do this if I have a soft top to keep on during the summer, which ive played around with the idea of buying one just for the summer.

Do you have friends or family that could store it at their place? How about at work any place to store it over the summer? Also, another idea is you could rent out a small storage garage for the summer months and store the top and it would be safe.

I am lucky to have a relative with a garage. They only keep the car in it during the winter. Otherwise I would have to keep it in my yard. Folks do keep them outdoors (covered).

Trouble is that they scratch easily and are not very sturdy when they are off the Jeep. I built a wheeled dolly but I think I am going to spring for one of the ready-made racks made by Bestop, etc. for next year.

Soft tops (especially with Sunrider) are great to have. But I definitely like the hard top for the cold half of the year here in New England.

Seems your options are borrow some space, rent some space, or sell it.

We are having to relocate for my job. I will be in the same situation. Luckily the apartments we are going to be staying in have garages for rent also. That gives me a place to put the HT in the summer. I do recommend having a soft top for the summer. It is much eaiser to only take the HT off/on once a year.

if you do have a relative or friend with a garage then maybe you can store it. there are other threads that have cheap and easy homemade ways to store a HT by hanging it from a ceiling. I did this in my garage and my HT hangs over my jeep so it could be out of the way.

I live out in the middle of nowhere with nowhere to store my top either. I've got it sitting on a pallet with a tarp over it in my back yard. I'm not happy about it, but it's all I can do.

I've left mine in the yard covered and lifted off the ground by setting it on sections of 4x4 posts. Never had a problem with scratching or the defrost/wiper not working. They are to big for someone to come steal unless two people pulled another jeep or truck up to it. (Just make sure you have insurance.)

Cheers

Get a small storage unit (4'x6'). They aren't that expensive and most of them give you the first month free if you have a 3 month contract with them.
