Default Strange Noise; Need Diagnostic Help

After 1800 miles my Jeep arrived in NoCal, where it was making a strange noise. The noise is a high pitch squeal, that occurs only when pressing on the accelerator. It is noticeable at 10-20mph while applying pressure to the gas pedal. When stopped & in Park, the noise does not occur when the engine is revved to 3000+ rpm. It sounds like squeeky brakes (but the brakes aren't being applied). The same noise occurs in Reverse at low speeds. It appears to be coming from the front end. While coasting, the noise does not occur. Any ideas? The noise is annoying & for the $ spent shouldn't be happening.

Me too. It only occurs when in gear and between 1700 and 2400 RPM.

Are you sure it is not a whistle from your intake?

Mine only whistles when in gear. When in park it does not make the sound. It only whistles between 1700 and 2400 RPM. When outside that RPM range it does not whistle.
I think if it where the intake it would whistle in or out of gear. Also, I am not sure it is a wind type whistle noise. It is to high pitch and would require very high pressure air to create that sound. Much more air than the intake moves. JMO

Its not angry sparrows like on the TJ is it? Universal joint went bad in my TJ and it squeaked allot up front, but it was pretty much squeaked when you were rolling not just when you hit the gas.

It's only whistling when I hit the gas. Driving the pavement, it appears to be getting worse or persisting at higher rpms. Rubimon - I don't think it's the intake; I've popped the hood, placed it in Park, and revved it up; it doesn't do it. I agree, if it's the intake it should occur regardless. BTW: The motor paired with the Magnaflow & the AEM Brute Force sounds great!!

I owned a TJ for the past 7 yrs and a CJ before that; I am unfamiliar with the reference made by aaholland to the "TJ noise."

What did you do to fix/stop it? I noticed it today at 2200rpm at highway speeds.

I noticed the same whistle on mine too. At first I thought it was another car's brakes squeeking, but later I noticed it when no other cars were around. I notice the sound at various speeds, but like you guys said, at a certain RPM range when accelerating. The noise is so high-pitched that my husband can't hear it. Now I am wondering if it might be from the CAI. I just installed an AEM a little over a week ago. I never heard the whistle until after I installed the intake.

Thanks for all of the feedback. It is high pitched. My Dad, who has been an industrial mechanic for 30yrs in a factory, can not hear it. If it is the AEM intake, does anyone have ideas on how to resolve it?
