Sorry - wrote Flowmaster, meant Magnaflow... check out this thread. I got my AIRAID through Quadratec, and have put in 2 orders through them so far with no complaints. Having said that, there are some other vendors on this site (see the sponsors section on the homepage or Project JK) that may have lower prices on certain items...

Trust me, I was shocked when I read it myself. My parents drove it from NE to San Francisco and that is what the JK averaged, despite driving for 3hrs into a WY headwind. The AEM, Jet Power II, Magnaflow custom exhaust (our the driver's side rear), and the lack of my oversized 35" tires definitely helped. Regarding the mods vs. budget-keeper, I too exercise salesmanship everytime I go to spend $ on my (3rd) Jeep.

OK - I know we're WAAAAY off topic at this point, but how's the Jet Power II chip? Do you have to run it off Premium fuel (as I believe I've read) and how does it affect the automatic transmission's shift points (assuming you have the AT)? Any opinions appreciated.

The Jet Chip works great and performs like it is supposed to. I had it in my 2000 TJ, I have it in my 2004 Tahoe, and now my JK. I do have the automatic Rubicon and haven't noticed a change in shift points. Once I install my lift and wheels, I can readdress the question. Regarding fuel, I don't use Premium; I use Unleaded Plus (89). I did the same with my TJ & Tahoe; each performed well.

Default Noise

I have been checking different things to try and locate the noise. I even ran up and down the road w/o any air intake or filter and the noise/squeak is still there. I have narrowed down my search to either the alternator or some thing in that general area possibly the exhaust manifold or a/c compressor.
Has anybody else located the cause for this noise?

I had an 02 dodge dakota and one of the bearings in the waterpump or alternator made a noise like you guys(or girls) have described. I could hear it while driving, but the mechanic until he used a stethoscope type thing to find it.

Hey,

JUst wanted to let all know i did some testting on this. I had amt97 on jeepsunlimited.com post about the noise. To test and see if you have the noise. Place your wrangler in gear and hold brakes down and rev the engine up tpo 1500-2500 if you hear the squeal. It will not happe with out it in gear. there is not anuff of a load on the engine to pull vacum over the intake to make it. So just because it will not do it in park does not mean you dont have it. I do have a home made intake. I heard it with the stock intake on too. People think it is just form the intake. The reason that you hear it better is that you can now hear more of the air flow. Stock filter blocks alot of the noise. I have taken it many time to the dealer for checks with and with out the filter in place.

AMT97 sent me the link to the fix on the grands. I did some testing. I did try the fix they had in the TSB. This did bring it down a little. I even went and made a gasket from paper the effect was the same as just the RTV sealent. I then had my girl friend sit in the drivers seat while i climbed over the grille and help ion for dear life as she rev the motor. I poored water over the throttle. there was no change in it. I did find out that the EGR bolt is striped from the factory.

I did try diffrent tubes that i made to chennel the sound if it was form a leak it should go away the further the tube is long and the throttle should make the noise. this was NOT the case. I found that the noise is comeing from the throttle body its self. I think that the butterfly is the cause or the noise. Or that there is a diffrence in size of the throttle opening and the intake oppening. I belive if someone had another throttle body to port that they could try remove the noise. But Unless i get a new butterfly and try it or I get anaother throotle body or port. I think this will fix it.

If you would like to read more on what I did. Look at http://jeepsunlimited.com/forums/sho...=822811&page=2

That is his post that we staretred working on it.
