This just happened to me yesterday, 2009 JKU. Dropped at dealership this morning since its under warranty. Great write-up though. Eventually that warranty will run out and if it happens again I can bypass the dealer and do this myself.

Great write up. Had mine replaced twice already too. The second time, I watched as the tech at the shop replaced the plastic bushing. Simple but aggravating... Definitely smart to grab some extra bushings and keep them with you. I think the heat plays a factor in weakening that plastic bushing over time. As little as I shift into and out of 4wd, I should not have had to replace that twice already.

Ok boys I have a folllow-up! Headed out on the trail. My son goes to switch into 4wd and the lever is loose. I went through this in April of 2012 and had the replaced the crappy $0.30 piece under the console. I took the center console off.....it's fine. Look under the Jeep and discover they use the same piece at the transfer case. Definitely installing a Advanced Adaptors linkage!!!!

Bringing this back from the dead, but it was the most useful thread for me. Drill out the stud, then after the linkage is back on just put a cotter pin through it. Mine just broke while I'm in vacation, gonna do that if I can find a drill somewhere.
