Default Transmission stuck in 2nd

Just got my 2010 Rubicon and took off road to figure out the 4x4 stuff. Somehow the auto transmission got stuck in 2nd gear. I could not figure out why the thing would just not really get going. Then a hot oil indication popped up on the digital read out. Let it cool and drove it home. The next day it was still stuck in 2nd. Turned it off and then restarted it and wala. Back to normal.
Has anybody had the same issue.

I doubt this is related to your problem, but make sure you are slowly (1-3 mph) rolling and in neutral when you shift in and out of 4 wheel drive. Don't force it.

sounds like limp mode. similar to human limp mode, you wanna go but the body doesn't. usually happen when the trans. fluid is to hot. were you taking it easy or driving like you stole it

Ditto, what you are experiencing is "Limp Home Mode". The trans will do this to avoid further damage when the fluid gets too hot among other things.

Sounds like you Jeep needs Viagra. Maybe better bumpers and some big tires will make it feel more manly!!

If you have a code reader look for code P0218 it would be a trans overheat code. I have not done it yet but I am looking at the Trans cooler mod. Search the write-ups for destructions.

Had "limp mode" happen a couple times took it to the dealer, had the P0218 code. Dealer says "your shift points are off, we'll reset it" haven't had it happen since but I'm still skeptical and want the aux cooler. (Don't know why they didn't include it from the factory considering it is set up to tow)

My 05 KJ did the same thing. I never noticed while I was out on the trail, but when I got on the highway I found that it wouldn't shift out of 2nd. I figured it to be a computer problem, so I pulled off the highway, shut it off and then back on again. That took care of it and I never had it happen again.

Default Damn tthis sucks

Just left to go to 4wheel parts and got on the highway and damn thing was stuck in second. I just installed an aux cooler so I don't think the transmission was overheating. Plus, I started it, left the house and drove one mile before I got on the highway. I'm confused....

Checked the fluid and it was right on...I have it sitting in the garage with the battery disconnected and hopefully it will work...

I just went through this same thing on my JK a few weeks ago. I got the P0731 error. Stuck in second - Its a limp home mode. There are 15 different causes for this error.

Ended up being the solenoid pac. Changed it and now it words fine. Fortunately, you only have to take the transmission pan off. Good time to service your tranny as well.
