My JK went into limp mode because I dropped in a new battery with much higher cranking amps. It wasn't the transmission fluid because I had already checked the level a couple days ago and it was full. It also was about 50 degrees outside that morning and my Jeep had been sitting outside all night in 20 degree weather, so it wasn't an overheating problem.

All I did was let my JK sit in the driveway for a minute then I cranked it back up and drove it down the street again. It shifted like normal. If it had still been in limp mode my next step would have been to disconnect and reconnect the battery again.

That is a new one , regarding a higher amperage battery, so long as the battery is a 12 volt automotive battery it should not make a difference. Amperage is A reserve capacity as such cc a's " Crank Case Amperage" the higher the better, especially in the cold conditions where a battery is known to be under the most stress compared to summer conditions.

X2. Agree with above, higher amperage battery shouldn't have any effect on electronics. Now if you hooked up a second battery.... That could be a different story if not done right

Nevertheless, my JK didn't go into "limp mode" until I had changed the battery. The previous battery that came with my Wrangler died after the first cold snap about a week back. The neighbor had to jump me off so I could make it to work on time. Later that day I cleaned the posts and wires and the battery lasted a few more days.

You'd think jumping the original battery may have tripped some kind of fail safe device but it didn't. You'd think after having disconnected both positive and negative wires to clean everything up and reconnect them would have caused some kind of electrical issues but it didn't.

Furthermore, I flipped the switch a few times to get the code for engine warning light I received a while back. I got the code P 20553 something or other. Disconnected the battery a minute and reconnected it. Engine light disappeared, code disappeared--in fact, I got a "DONE" reading, then nothing but dashes--my Jeep worked fine. But with the new battery, I switched batteries and all of a sudden I'm in limp mode city. I've had the old battery disconnected plenty times for various reasons and never had limp mode issues. I switch batteries and get a limp mode issue. No big deal really. My JK is a damn rock. Still truckin' on down the road like an M1 Abrams tank.
