Default Trouble starting zipper on rear window

Sometimes I have trouble starting the zipper on the rear window.

I tried starting the zipper WITHOUT first attaching the window to the swing gate bar. Seemed to make it easier.

I hate my back window with a passion. I have started to attach it without the bar and it does seem to make it easier. It's still a pain to zip. I did put some WD40 on it which seemed to help. I think it's time to apply more as I was caught in the rain the other day trying to zip up the rear window and it took forever to get the zipper moving and keep it moving. The zipper teeth never seem to line up correctly no matter how I align the bottom and start the zipper. I notice a lot of 'double teeth' instead of single alternating teeth in spots.

Loosen the front two latches ( takes some tension off) and the first little piece of plastic right next to the rear window on each side( allows your hand to fit to zip window).

You are absoloutly right on not attaching it first. I just rest mine in place.

good luck

I actually discovered a way to do this better. Was a real pain the first few times and was concerned the zipper would get damaged. I leave my rail attatched and just remove the whole thing if I want it out, but either way: I put the bar in and slide it further left than center. I hold the top of the window up stright with my left hand. With my right index and thumb I grab over the top of both zipper heads and pull up until the bottom one is flush. Then zip up the top zipper with my right hand. Once its started I recenter the window and rail. Works very well and no excessive tugging.

Switch hands and this is how I have always done it... I also spray silicon on all the zippers from time to time.

I found that if you don't put the top's portion of the zipper fully into the window's it works easily every time....until you get to the corners that is.

I spent the $10.00 plus 6.25% for Deval on that. I don't think there's anything in that bottle other than Ivory dishwashing liquid, which you can get much cheaper at the grocery store.

Usually when I have issues starting it, it's because the sails aren't pulled enough around the back. Once it bites, I use vice grips to force it all the way around. My top is pretty beat up after a few years.
