oh man not what i wanted to hear rando :( with your current set up (5"lift and 35" tires) what type of mud/water damage have you come across? with a set up like yours i would probably not be hitting many holes which would have water comming within 1-2" or so of the rock sliders.. how where the holes that caused your damages?
i dont necessarily Need the room but of course it would be nice to have extra room if it is ever needed. there are many factors in determining which model to choose, which this thread and the ones who are commenting are helping me figure out.. thanks dan
Not much to add as it's already been pretty much said, but if you go LWB it does make for a nice instant camper. Also think about some under body armor along with the lift to make up for that break over angle.
yeah thanks for leaving the comment (and your avatar
) seer.. with the poll being close to 50/50 and all the comments i'm leaning towards the unlimited but still basically undecided. its good knowing the 4-door dosn't have to much of a disadvantage off road so i'm falling that way but hopefully can get a test drive in each and choose from there.
as for the under armour what parts are most important?

I haven't voted but here's my story:
I have the unlimited. I never even considered having a Jeep of my own until I saw the 4 door model. Sure I thought they looked fun but in my world something like a vehicle has to be be applicable to my every day uses as well as fun. I have never been turned off by 4 doors...even cars and maybe I'm weird for that. I'd take a nice mildly sporty sedan over a spaceship looking street racer any day. I am pretty young yet at 27 and have been married 5yrs with no kids so there is no stereotype I fall into that "explains" my 4 door choice. I like that I can possibly fit 3 people in the back seat and still have room in the rear for gear or whatever. Most of the time it is just the wife and I or just me...I use the back seat for computer gear I haul between buildings or for taking the guys out to lunch OR taking friends off road who don't have a vehicle that can do so. I've only had the rig a couple months at most and I have a lot of space I haven't used yet but I'd rather know its there when I need it than wish I had it later. I also like how the unlimited looks big...but does not drive like a big vehicle at all. Maybe the modded/lifted ones are different but one of the first things I liked was the driveability.
Oh to add off road experience: I went on my first group trail run a few weeks ago through some snowy/icey michigan trails and had zero problems with tight turns or hills. In fact my stock unlimited X made it up the most challenging hill of the day without even a blink whereas some of the guys with heavily modded dedicated trail rigs where getting stuck and winched up. I'm not trying to say anything negative about their rides but I am saying I was more than pleased with the performance of mine.
