Sometimes I don't understand human beings.

Half of the Jeepers don't like the stock engine because there is not enough HP, therefore they want the Hemi engine.

The other half of the Jeepers prefer the diesel version with less HP!!!

What's the problem with the 3.8 engine? Personally, I think it's a great engine. Not too big, not too thirsty, and strong enough to climb the Rubicon Trail

 

The diesel engine has way better torque, that matters a lot more than horsepower in this vehicle. Having said that the 3.8 is ok, you just need the right diff. gears (which I don't, haha).

 

Horse power isn't what you are after with a diesel. It's the torque at low rpm's. (Which, by definition, equates to more horse power at the low rpm)
Personally, I think the 3.8 is doing just fine. I have 4.10's.

 

I think the 3.8L is OK. I like the extra room under the hood - makes it easy to maintain and inspect. A little more torque would be nice, but it does pretty good in 4L.

 

Is that a real question?

Seriously, torque is where it's at when wheelin'.

 

I can see why those with an Unlimited and an auto might complain about performance but in a 2 door with a 6 speed it's just fine.

The problem is the high revs to get power. It has lots of power over 3k RPM. However I don't like to have to rev an engine that high on a regular basis to get power. I am coming from a 2000 XJ with the 4.0L I6 and I still own a 82 CJ7 with the 258 I6. After that the lack of low end power is very evident. It has power just not in the range I would like.

 

95% of the time, I can not complain. It is OK.
