Jeep Unveils 2024 Wrangler to Fight Ford

For the 2024 model year, Jeep adds some enticing updates to keep ahead of rising Ford Bronco sales.

For decades, the Jeep Wrangler was the best selling off-road SUV anyone could buy. As the apex predator, the Wrangler was unbothered — until Ford developed and successfully released the Ford Bronco. In the beginning, Ford stayed comfortably behind Jeep’s Wrangler sales last year with 117,057 Broncos sold compared to Jeep’s 181,409. However, Bronco sales skyrocketed and closed the gap in sales to just 2,000 vehicles in the final quarter of last year. Now, Ford has everyone at Jeep HQ biting their nails.

In order to keep the crown, Jeep Wrangler decided to make some serious changes to the upcoming 2024 Jeep Wrangler SUV and Wrangler 4xe. Without a hybrid in their lineup (yet), Jeep is still ahead of Ford in that regard — especially since the Wrangler 4xe was the best selling PHEV in the U.S., despite the embarrassing combined MPGe. With Ford not offering a hybridized Bronco (yet), the Wrangler 4xe can rest easy — but Jeep is definitely feeling the pressure.

“Today, we are raising the bar once again by combining the most capable Wrangler to date, with more technology, comfort and safety features,” said Jeep CEO Christian Meunier.

Some of the official specifications Jeep let loose are an 8,000 lb capacity Warn winch as an added option, and a Dana 44 HD full float solid rear axle that would allow owners some tire size flexibility. Additionally, it would increase the towing capacity to 5,000 lbs. One higher trim levels, Jeep offers an exclusive Sky One-Touch power top, that helps build on the open air concept that made Wranglers so popular from the jump.

For the Wrangler 4xe, the 2024 model year will come with Jeep’s 4xe Power Box, which is equipped with four 120-volt outlets with 30-amp total output, offering the ability to charge accessories on the go. On the 62 Jeep Badge of Honor model, the Trails Offroad application will come standard in the Uconnect 5 system, offering the driver access to the app’s 3,000 plus trail guides.

To make the best selling PHEV in America even more appealing to those on the fence, Jeep is releasing a Sport S trim for the 4xe, which has a lower price tag than the standard 4xe — but with all the benefits. The Rubicon, a favorite trim level among the Jeeple, is getting an additional entry to the lineup in the form of the Rubicon X — which comes with bigger tires for the 2.0 and 3.6 liter engine models, steel bumpers, and off-road cameras.
