Swimming War Vehicles Big Draw in Australia

If you thought looking at old photos of vintage war Jeeps treading water were cool, then you’ll definitely love this one.

For the past 37 years, a group in Australia has been holding an event that showcases a number of sea-parting military vehicles, according to The Border Mail.

One of those vehicles is a 1943 Ford GPA owned by Manfred Hinkel, who decided to participate in this year’s annual Corowa Swim-In and Military Vehicle Gathering, where like-minded individuals take to the water to showcase their collectibles.

Apparently, Hinkel purchased his U.S-built war Jeep about four years ago. He says his initial goal was to buy a German vehicle known as the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen, which also is capable of trekking through water. But from that smile on Hinkel’s face, I’d say he’d much rather be boating in an American Jeep rather than a VW.
