UConnect Sync May Lead Police to Jeep Thieves

Ever think to yourself – all this technology might be breeding a future generation of idiots? Don’t get me wrong, I like the conveniences that come with high-tech gadgets as much as anyone else. But for a lot of today’s youth, it seems that all the technology is completely replacing their ability to think things through on their own.

In fact, I don’t think some of them even bother.

Take for example, these young brainiacs who stole a Renegade during a Baltimore home invasion, then abandoned the Jeep after they ran out of gas. The police quickly identified one of young thieves from a hidden camera in the residence. But the juvenile refused to identify the others, as highlighted in an Ars Technica report.

With no additional clues, it was starting to look like the other culprits might get away scot-free, were it not for one major screw up —  apparently a couple of the thieves had synced their cell phones to the stolen Jeep’s UConnect system.

Just brilliant, right?

A Baltimore-based cyber-security firm has since linked the phone to a potential suspect’s Instagram account, which is now being investigated by police.

Yup, there’s just no amount of technology that can replace common sense.
