Ouray colorado july 4th any suggestions?????
I did Imogene Pass, Yankee Boy Basin, and Black Bear last year. Definitely trails I would do again.
They should be open by July 4th, but keep an eye on this website as people list how passable some of the high elevation trails are: http://ww w.bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm

My biggest suggestion would be to catch the fireworks show in Silverton. It's great, just the traffic sucks getting out of town when it's over.
Be prepared to run into some traffic on the trails, the 4th is a busy time for the San Juan Triangle. Chances are good that not all of the passes/trails will be open by that time (Imogene and Black Bear)....but that all depends on the weather and county maintenance.
Plenty of GPS tracks for trails on my website here (under the San Juan Mountains section): http://www.myxj.net/blog/trails/colorado-gps-tracks

Thanks again
Where are you staying? In years past I stayed in Silverton (crappy hotels) and Ouray (tourist rates and now too expensive for me). I've since moved north to Montrose... the hotels are cheaper. I got a room for this Sep at $69.00 a night at the Holiday Inn (using Hotwire).
You can download the GPS waypoints from the book here....
