Man, I love that Timbersmith furniture. Wish there was an option like them when I bought my stock set a decade ago. K-var poly is great but just something about a nice wooden stock set.

Receiver cover mounts pretty much universally suck.
The Timbersmith has a good weight and nice feel as opposed to the plastic I see all around. I haven't compared it to a TAPCO set or anything else that would be truly battle worthy. I'm sure several of the composite sets are weight savers. I'm buying a .308 next year and plan on keeping that one composite so it will be a little more weather resistant. I chose the black because it seems to fit with the stock finish of the Saiga... but I do really, really want red or purple.

I've contemplated buying a set of Timbersmith furniture but just can't justify it. My K-Var poly is great and has never truly given me reason to replace it. I did upgrade the pistol grip to the TAPCO SAW style grip. I carried the SAW in the Marines and just liked the pistol grip better than the narrow AK style grip I had before.

I do want to have a rail put on my AK. My Egyptian Maadi came here without the rail. I've seen the rails for sale and now know a decent 'smith so I just may do it. Using the one on my buddy's Saiga proved the design to me.

That is an AMD65. Did you just have it outside of the country, or are you an SOT? Not many civilian transferable 65's exist is why I ask.

I totally missed that! Ive seen that before but never installed one. Im not an AK guy, just have friends who have them and they come to me to fix their quad rail installs gone bad. Frankly I hate the way the red dots look so far up front.

My front handguard and the gas tube get so hot when firing a lot that I sort of wonder about that being an issue for any optic mounted up there.

I've got no science behind that but it makes me cock an eyebrow thinking about it.

Man I would love to have both of those but talk about some paperwork! Sometimes I think NFA is too much hassle, but then my need for a new goodie outweighs my laziness lol
