Do you like, "sporting rifle" instead? Anything but other than using the anti's hysterical label.

This is a pre-ban Bushmaster XM-15. Heavy barrel, diy paint job(first attempt), a cheap red dot, and my favorite part... the bayonet lug. I think we should all have this option on our home defense kit. Now I know the next comment will draw some flak, but it's mostly tongue in cheek. The first home invader that makes the mistake of breaking into my house will get stabbed with my "assault " rifle. Let's see how the liberal news media deals with that story.

I could really use some help with an optic choice. I found an Eotech 512 for $265 with a smart use of coupons but I'm thinking about a scope instead. I just shoot for fun and my range is really only 100 yds with one 200 yd taget. The eotech would be great at shorter distances but would it be good at 100 -200 with a magnifier? If I was only going to spend $150 - $200 what would you recommend?

512 is an old outdated design, using fore-aft AA batteries. It has a real high failure rate with the battery box and should really be avoided. I have a 552 on my duty rifle, similar to a 512. I hate it. It's a POS too. Our failure rate for the 552's is near 30%. Get an Aimpoint Micro 2MOA and never turn it off and never look back. If you are dead set on an Eotech, one of the newer models with the single CR123 mounted sideways is the way to go.

Thanks for the advice. Im not committed to eotech, it just seemed like a good deal. If i can't swing the aimpoint what would be a cheaper alternative?
