Please add these up for a total time. Then run from any entry into your house to your bedroom and see how many seconds that was. Add 5 seconds for breaking window, door kick, etc.
Just trying to put things in perspective. Everyone will do things thier own way, and I am not trying to sway you.
Im fine with some disussion man.

Who did you guys piss off that they are going to study your house, figure out your bedroom, and STORM your house locked and loaded with the goal of killing you in mind! Im not so sure that a JK Forum wheeling trip is in my future! Im just kiddin guys, but really the person breaking into your home wants your TV, bluray, and anything in between those two and the door.

Sure that was extreme. But so was the warzone and video game statement. If you leave your weapons unloaded thats fine, your choice.

But like I said before, people wanting to steal your property won't do it while your are home. They pick easy targets to avoid getting caught. So if someone breaks into your home while you're in it, I'd rather be prepared.

Also, Keeping a loaded weapon for home defense is not living in a video game.
Just my .02

and most home intruders... at least round these parts... are armed and usually more than one person. Guess what some armed waste of space thug is going to do when you try and stop him from taking your shit? They dont run... they kill you... yes for a TV... happens all the damn time.

Thats why I keep my gun loaded... thats why I keep a high capacity mag and several extras next to it... thats why I fully intend on ending the life of any and all intruders.

Regardless, to each their own and remember:

"Shoot twice, end a life, criminals are everywhere!

Oh... and when the cops show up, one side of the story is always better than two or more...

i have a nice Baikal double barrel

dual triggers, interchangeable chokes, functioning external hammers.

one side slug, one side 00.

fire through the door, or blow the sumbitch through the door.

a flavor for all occasions.

if i put on the 15rd sling i have all kinds of warm fuzzy options for the offending goblins.

This thread is so far offtopic it is insane. So, trying to get back on topic yet again:
... even though it didnt ask for a HANDGUN, and not discounting the 45 Colt at all (which is NOT a shotgun round, so therefor not part of the OP'S question at all)
lets go with the 410...

Who would buy a 410 shotgun(shotpistol) for home defense??? seriously??? WTH are you gonna do with it? shoot gerbils?

its a great gun, but a 410 for home defense??? really???

ill stick with a 12gauge shotgun. how many 00 bb's could you get in a 410?? 3... maybe 4? and where would you put the powder? the shell is just to small IMO to be anything more than a snake/rat disperser. I had a 410 and it was cool, but i certainly would NOT bet my life on it.

...but to each there own i guess. Taurus sure has some good marketing.

I have to agree..... For the sake of the OP, ANY brand of shotgun will work for home defense!!
I would lean toward 12 ga. just because of it's stopping power... you can pick up a good Remington 870 pump for a couple hundred bucks, and you can go up from there depending on brand and style of shot gun, i.e. pump, semi-auto, tactical style, etc.......
In a nut shell... if all you want to use this shot gun for is home defense, you can use whatever you can get and spend as much as you want... it's all about stopping power........
