Can someone tell me why an antenna bracket is $30!?
Sorry guys, I didn't get a chance to take a pic while I was at work. Here's a link to a bracket similar to what I used. I just took one of my stock spare tire mount bolts in with me and looked for something that would fit. Once I painted it black, I stuck a small square piece of rubber between the bracket and the tailgate when I mounted it up. I've had it on there for two and a half years with zero issues.

So I'm stupid because I spent $30 on the TeraFlex mount, rather than buy some metal and try to fab one myself? Guess I'm also stupid because I spent $230 on the Tuffy overhead console to mount my radio in, too?
Edit: Okay, so I took out my previous expletive. But spending money on something I knew I'd never take the time to try to fab myself (especialy considering I dont have acces to any sort of metal working tools or a welder) doesn't classify me as lazy or stupid. Trying to find time to even start a project, regardless of how big or small it may be, is a challenge in itself when you work 40 hours a week, take 15 hours of school, and try ti fit in time to be a husband and dad to a 2 year old.
So IMHO....it was $30 well spent. Certainly worth the time I couldn't spare to make my own.

As for making your own parts, if you have the time and resources I think it's great to make your own parts but the majority of us don't have fab shops at our disposal. I’m all for being creative and making parts you can’t buy but it can be very expensive and not everyone has a budget that allows it.
Oh, and anyone wanting to point a lazy finger at me can kiss my a$$. I built my Jeep while I was stationed in a foreign country and deploying for an average of 288 days a year for three years. It never went into a shop for anything until I got back stateside and had it re-geared. Other than that, I've done every mod and installed every part on my jeep myself including installing my winch in a Japanese hardware store parking lot. So the “I don’t have enough time” or “you’re lazy because…” argument strikes a special nerve with me. Especially when the ones who say those things get to be home with their loved ones every night.
Sorry, had to vent a little bit...

So here's a mock up of my budget antenna mount...a $3.00, 90° from the depot. I used 3 nuts/bolts and it looks like the antenna should clear everything, like the brake light and rear wiper when done. I'll post pics of the finished product later. Plan on spraying some black inhibitor on it too. Thanks for all the tips!
