I've been driving trucks for 30 years have had several CBs from expensive to free... And I've alwAys liked the Cobras the cheep every dirt hole sales them... So when a part fails it isn't hard to find a replacement .... And every CB. Shop knows not only how to fix it but how to soup them up... Hope this is helpful.

X2
I also have quite a few and my CB shop at my house. For jeepers I usually recommend Cobra as well as Uniden. The main boards on them are generally the same so looks and features are going to be your deciding factor. Some of the guys on here are running midlands which are also good. Midland makes a unit similar to the Cobra 75 that has some different features.

Uniden Pro 520XL

It is a damn fine radio with a small footprint!

What are anyones thoughts on 40 channel CB's from Radio Shack. I have one that 10 yrs old that was in my YJ and want to put it in my JK. Should I upgrade? I only need it for some highway use as well as on the trail.

If it was working on your YJ there's no reason it will not work on the JK. I'd save the money for other mods, mostly if you will use it just a little.

I did way too much research before I got mine. I have everything you need and the best small tough radio options

Your not going to get one that is going to perform much better if at all. Though RF gain is a nice feature to have. The biggest thing that improves your CB range is your antenna set-up because the CB market is limited to a measly 4 watts by the FCC. I think the best antenna you can get would be the 3' or 4' Firestik Firefly(not not all firestiks are firefly's. They will have an FL in the name). It's very flexible and has good performance.

swiz9:
I agree with the other two. If it works, the only reason to swap is features or looks.

There has been no real improvements in CB radio since the mid 70s, so if you've got one that works there is no reason, aside from vanity, to change.
